Posted by admin On July - 6 - 2009

Gnabagangal

Actors: Pa. Vijay, Sridevika, Jeevan

Director: Jeevan

Music: James Wick

Producer: J.Sunthanathan

The national award winning lyricist Pa. Vijay has made a big mark in Tamil cinema by debuting as the hero in Gnabagangal along with actress Sridevika. The story is about his late friend Kadhiravan’s love story. Kadhiravan who is national award winning lyricist for the song “Gnabagam Illaya” is the main character of the movie and his love life with Meera played by actress Sridevika is depicted beautifully in the movie.  Kadhiravan (played by Pa. Vijay) who flies to New Delhi to receive the national award goes to meet his former lover Meera (Sri Devika) after the award ceremony. She does not know of her phenomenal rise and when he goes to her house she invites inside her palatial house. She has been forcefully married to a business man by her father inspire of her deep love with Kadhir. When they both meet after a long time, flashback of their past romance blossoms between them.

Kadhir soon finds that meera was hiding something from him and she was not really happy. He later finds that Meera’s husband has committed suicide and has left huge debts to pay off and she was struggling with it. But he is heartbroken since Meera does not tell him the truth. The next day when he attends a felicitation organized by the Tamil sangam, she finds that Meera Priyan is none other than Kadhir her lover. She wants to re-unite with him but fate has a different climax for them. The film has quite interesting screenplay and Sridevika has performed really amazing though her costumes do not fit her role. Pa. Vijay has done a good job, but still his facial expressions are not much appreciable.

The music played by James Wick is good to hear. The screenplay is classy and traditional. The narration could have been made still faster to make the film exciting. Gnabangal is a good to watch love story.

Nadodigal – A Movie with a Message

Posted by admin On July - 6 - 2009

celluloidtamil.comCast and Crew:

Cast: Sasikumar, Vijay, Bharani, Ranga, Ganja Karuppu, Ananya, Abhinaya

Director: Samuthrakani

Music: Sundar C. Babu

Banner: Global Infotainment

Tamil cinema has got a lot movies with friendship as the main theme but Nadodigal is a different movie about friendship and it s got a nice message in it about friendship – “A friend in need is a friend indeed”. The movie begins in the town of Rajapalayam where Karunakaran (Sasikumar), Chandran (Vijay) and Pandi (Barani) are thick friends with different motivations in their life. Karunakaran who is gold medalist in B.A. wants to get a government job that would make his uncle happy. He is in love with Nallama (played by Ananya) who is his uncle’s daughter. Pandi who is ill treated by his step mother wants to go abroad in search of a job. Chandran (Vijay) wishes to set up a computer centre on his own in his town through the help his father who is an ex-serviceman.

He is in love with Pavitha (Abhinaya) who is the sister of Karunakaran. Their life goes smoothly until they find that Saravanan (Ranga) who is the son of fomer legislator Sanghi Pathak (Jayaprabha) tries a suicide attempt.  Saravana is a child hood friend of Karunakaran and so the three friends wish to help him. Sarvanan is in love with duaughter of Pazhanivel Rajan who is the arch rival of his mother. The three friends go to Namakkal to help Saravanan and his lover Prabha. Ganja Karuppu who is also their friend helps them in this venture. Director Samuthrakani has done a good direction and the script is very impressive.

Karuna loses his eyesight in this venture and Pandian becomes deaf while Chandran loses his leg in this venture. But they are very happy that they have helped their friend’s love. But they are shocked and frustrated when they come to know their love is mere infatuation and they soon decide to divorce after marriage. They gear up for second marriage which annoys the three friends.

Sasi Kumar has done his role in an amazing manner and his role is very realistic.  Ganja Karuppu takes care of the comedy track that makes the film interesting. The music scored by Sundar C. Babu is appreciable with the song “Sambo Siva Sambo” becoming a good hit. Cinematgraphy is excellent and natural and Kathir has done his best. The film gets slow after the interval but has a good start and ambience in the beginning. The director has put in two item number songs unnecessarily that do not go in line with the story. The first half is racy entertainer while second half is a bit slow.

Nadodigal is really an amazing movie to watch with friends and family.

Thoranai Film Review

Posted by admin On June - 1 - 2009

celluloidtamil.comCast: Vishal, Shriya Saran, Prakash Raj, Kishore, Santhanam, Paravai Muniamma, Sriman..

Producer: VikramKrishna

Banner: G.K Films Corporation

Director: Saba Iyyappan

Music: Mani Sharma

The recent release Thoranai has got worst reviews from Audience as it has lot of Telugu influence in it with full action and masala and the screen play is not interesting. Thoranai has senseless dialogues like ‘Dae Naa Yaarunu Theriyuma… Naa Enga Appaneya Kola Pannuva… They are more absurd and there are lot similar punch dialogues in the movie which are totally stupid.

The story is not a new one and is similar to masala movies in Telugu. Vishal who stars as Murugan arrives in Chennai to search for his brother Ganesh who left during childhood days. He visits a couple of kingpins in the underground dealing with Tamizharasan played by PrakashRaj and Guru played by Kishore. He becomes a witness of one of the murders committed by Guru in a main location in Chennai. He also meets shriya in the middle of his venture and falls in love with her. Vishal gets shocked when he comes to know that one of the rogues is his brother.

He does lot of action by jumping from big floors and hitting the rowdies. The chase timings and fights are too long and they make half of the movie. And punch dialogues make another quarter of the movie. Saba Iyappan who is a debutant has made the film boring and monotonous with repeated dialogues and lot of fights like a Telugu movie. Vishal’s comedy track with Santhanam is quite interesting, but it doesn’t support the film too much.

Shriya saran is very glamorous and sexy and has played a meaty role in the movie. She has shown lot of exposure to her body and the songs are very romantic. Prakash Raj and Kishore have done justice to their roles while Santhanam’s comedy tracks are quite a good relief for the audience. Manisharma’s music is not so great and technical aspects are also off the same credits.Screenplay is completely flimsy on all occasion except climax fight sequence drama.

CONCLUSION:

As a whole, Thoranai cannot succeed in the box office and it will be a mere entertainer with audience coming to watch only for sexy shriya in the screen. The absurd punch dialogues and long fight scenes have ruined the film and it has not chance of getting audience support. It will add to the list of Vishal’s flop movies apart from Satyam.

Sarvam Movie Released – A Brief Review

Posted by admin On May - 18 - 2009

sarvamSarvam, the romantic flick starring Trisha and Arya was released recently and the film is getting good reach among the public. The director Vishnuvardhan who is known for his style as seen in Ajith’s blockbuster Billa has made this movie with a lot of action in a trendy and fashionable way. The cinematographer Nirav shah has done an excellent job with his camera and the videography of the film is eye-catching with a lot of sizzling shots from different angles.

The movie Sarvam has it all like romance, comedy and action and the screenplay is really excellent. Yuvan’s music is also good to hear and songs have come so well.

The film’s storyline is actually a real incident and doesn’t seem to be a new one. The visual narration is good and the mix of romance and action is perfect. The movie is a thriller and Arya plays the role of an architect who falls in love with gorgeous trisha. The first half is pretty boring with no much interesting scenes, Arya runs behind Trisha and falls in love with her and the second half is very rapid with lot of action and suspense in which Arya tries to save the life of young child by involving a lot of risks in his life.

Trisha plays the role of a medication practitioner and she falls in love with Arya who is a handsome and Suave architect. She plays a glam doll and has shown lot of glamour in songs. Unfortunately, she plays a short role in the movie and she disappears so quickly. Her character is not much related to the storyline. JD Chakravarthy is also playing an interesting role in the movie as well as Malyalam actor Indirajith plays the role of a desperate father who is also trying to save his only son who is into trouble.

The meeting point between Arya who stars as Karthick and Trisha who stars as Sandya happens at a Kart Track and they soon fall in love with each other. Trisha gets stranged by the thread of kite and she loses her soul. However her heart gets transplanted for an young boy named Imman who plays to role as Rohan, who is the son of Naushad (played by Indrajith). A flashback states a story of Naushad who has run over football coach Eashwar’s wife, who is waiting for taking his vengeance. Arya has an affection to this child as her lover’s heart is transplantedin him. So, knowing of Eashwar’s vengeance plan, he comes to save the kid and what happens after that is the climax which has been made with a lot of suspense and thrill in the movie.

The movie sarvan directed by Vishnuvardhan under the banner of Ayngaran film international is definitely a good visual treat for the audience with eye-catching visual effects and good performance by all actors.

Guru En Aalu – A Review

Posted by admin On May - 14 - 2009

guru-en-aluActors: Madhavan, Abbas, Vivek

Actresses:Mamta Mohandas, Brinda Parekh

Direction: Selva
Music: Srikanth Deva
Production: KRG

Guru En Aalu starring Madhavan, Abbas, Mamta Mohanda, Brinda Parekh and Vivek is the remake of the hindi movie « YesBoss ». Directed by Selva with a good screenplay and cast, the movie is an enjoyable one with good comedy track by Vivek.
Madhavan plays the role of a loyal servant to Abbas who is the manager of a company. Madhavan has big dreams of becoming an entrepreneur while Abbas is a womanizer and interested in dating and falling in love with beautiful girls. He uses Madhavan for doing all his deeds by saying that he would help maddy in realizing his dreams.
Abbas has a crush on a girl and he wants to get her, so he asks Madhavan to do the job for him. Madhavan tries for satisfying his boss’s desire without knowing that he is double-crosser and innocent of the girl’s actual interests. This is an age old story but the side tracks and comedy is what makes the screenplay good and viewers engaged.
Comedian Vivek has done an excellent job in the movie by giving a good comedy track with the combination with MS Baskar and they can make everyone in the theatres laugh till their bellies ache. He dances for the Oru Koodai sunlight along with Baskar like superstar and Shreya in Sivaji which is a very good comic scene and makes everybody laugh. The other characters like Mayizhsamy and Thambi Ramya have also done a good job in the movie with sidetracks.
Maddy gets attracted by audience a lot as he has a charismatic persona while the heroine’s role is not that good for audience to get attracted to. Abbas has done a good performance and has been well suited for his character. Srikanth deva has composed some decent music and the songs are good to listen at least once in the theatre.
Brinda Parekh has shown a lot of glamour in one song which is a treat for audience. Without comedy, the movie is a total dry one but the sidetracks makes the movie viewable and keeps the audience engaged. So, Guru Enn Aalu is a reasonably good movie for a family viewing.

Newtonin Moondram Vidhi – A Small Review

Posted by admin On May - 9 - 2009

newtonS. J Suryah who is always known for his movies with double meaning dialogues and lot of fun has made a big difference in his storyline in his recent flick Newtonin Moondraam Vidhi which happens to be movie about a Revenge drama.

The movie has been directed by Thai Muthu Selvan which is a suspense movie where the hero plans to take revenge of the villain who has raped and murdered his fiancé before the marriage.

S.J Suryah acts as Guru, the affected hero whose fiancé has been raped and murdered and Rajeev Krishna who plays the role of JP as a cruel villain.  Sayali Bhagat plays the role of Guru’s fiancé who gets murdered before her marriage.

The film has a different storyline where the hero makes a fool-proof plan to take revenge of the villain by planning to kill him at the exact time his lover was murdered and he does it the same way.

Guru is played by S.J. Suryah in a superb way and has done his acting so well in this movie. Guru plans the murder with the help of his friend Sasikumar. He calls up the villain at 10.a.m exactly on the day when his fiancé was murdered the previous year and tell him that he will be killed within two hours, the exact time when his fiancé died.

This is where the suspense and thrill in the movie begins and it’s like a cat and mouse game with Guru having a careful plan so that the villain does not escape from him. He recalls the scenes of his lover being murdered before killing the villain and all this created a lot of anger and vengeance in him he executes his plan perfectly in the climax.

The villain is Rajiv Krishna who starred in his first tamil movie “Aaha” in which he acted as a romantic and cute hero but this villain character looks very different for him. Suryah who also does heroic roles that has romance and fun has come up as a real hero who takes revenge of the villain in this movie.

There is no comedy track in the movie like usual S.J Surya movie and also the songs have not come up so well. The heroine Sayali Bhagat is new to Tamil and looks mature in some scenes though she has acted well when cornered by Villian by expressing fear.

Pasanga – A Superb Movie for Children

Posted by admin On May - 6 - 2009

pasanga-reviewDirector Pandiaraj is now happy that his movie Pasanga has come out very well. Debutant director Pandiraj is excited with all the adolescent stars he has showcasted who have performed superbly in the movie. They are Sriram, Kishore, Vimal and Vega who have done an excellent job in the movie. The music from James Vasanthan has also become great addition for the movie’s quality.
Pasanga is about a set of enthusiastic kids who bring the attraction with vibrant energy and pandiraj has handled them so well. Taken in a village background with a story line that is interesting for youngsters the film is really interesting.
It states about puppy love and humour coming in the adolescent ages of students. A young school boy by name Jeeva (acted by sriram) is surprised by the change in his class caused by a new friend Anbu who comes from private school to government school as his father loses his wealth. Anbu who has been brought up well is outstanding in the class does all homework so well and solves problems in lightning speed which makes the rest of the students awe struck.
There is also a puppy love between Keerthana and Anbu where Keerthana is the sister of Jeeva. This is very funny and the mix of characters has been potrayed so well with a beautiful screenplay. The rest of cast which include all real life school children has done a great job in adding additional support to the movie.
The greatness of the movie is its reality and the script is very natural. It is set in a small town by name Virachilai near pudukotai and it’s about students doing their sixth standard. All their wits, squarrels, puppy love, sentiments, feelings and emotions in them are clearly picturised in this movie and it is a nice movie to watch for children this summer. It is similar to movies Vennizha Kabadi Kuzhu and Kungamapoovum Konjumpuravum in a same fashion with a village background.
The film is produced by M. Sasikumar, the actor who made a big success in acting with his first movie Subramaniyapuram. Now he is happy that his first venture in producing a movie is also become a good success.

Mariyadhai Movie Is for Vijayakanth’s Fans

Posted by admin On April - 30 - 2009

mariyathai1Mariyathai Movie starring Vijayakanth in lead role — the latest from the stable of Raj TV and T Siva’s Amma Creations — says ‘Wonderful respect’, and you can’t help but wonder what fare ‘Captain’ Vijaykanth will dish out. But then again, its director Vikraman is known to make family entertainers.
Mariyadhai seems to take off where Vikraman’s previous film, Vaanathai Pola, left off — thanks to dozens of bullock-carts, kind father-figures and wholesome families. But half an hour into the film, the differences become apparent.
The story is set in the hills of Pollachi. Father Annamalaiyaar and son Raja aka Pichai (both played by a ponderous Vijaykanth), mother (Ambika), a pretty sister and a rather chubby Chandra starring Meera Jasmine, a radio jockey who arrives to stay with them because her parents have left for the US. There’s the ever-present Man-Friday (Ramesh Khanna), who potters around the home and provides many opportunities for humour.
In the midst of all this, Chandra falls in love with Raja — a dutiful son who has been brought up differently by his father — but he does not return her love. He’s too busy running his tractor and earning money. A flashback tells us that Raja was once in love with Radha (Meena, in a delightful role) but it went sour. That’s when, in 1980s fashion, Chandra vows to make him love her.
It says a lot for Vikraman’s screenplay that despite the all-too-familiar landscape, the Vijaykanth-Ramesh Khanna duo can still evoke some laughs. You don’t often see bumbling mothers who are terrible at cooking, but such caricatures are the director’s forte. There are also the mega-serial induced stock twists and turns, peppered liberally with political punch lines and devotion to parents.
Vijaykanth looks ponderous and stiff-necked, and delivers his lines in robot-fashion, and seemingly is Superman in a veshti. It’s his show all the way. Meera Jasmine has little to do except prance around in ill-fitting dresses. Surprisingly, it’s Meena who walks away with honours. Her role is definitely different and her saris are excellent. Ambika is fun to watch. Shanmugarajan and Sampath are wasted.
Suresh Ars’ editing fits the bill while Vidhesh’s camerawork brings beautiful Pollachi to life. Mariyadhai is full of stock situations and trite dialogues but can satisfy Vijaykanth’s fans.

Kunguma Poovum Konjumpuraavum Review

Posted by admin On April - 25 - 2009

kpkpBanner: Capital Film Works
Cast: Ramakrishna, Dakshana
Direction: Rajmohan
Production: S P B Charan
Music: Yuvan Shankar Raja

After the success of the sleeper hit “Chennai 600028” actor-producer S.P.B. Charan returns with “Kungumapoovum Konjumpuravum”, starring newcomers Ramakrishnan and Tharshana. The story takes you into the rural heartland of Tamil Nadu.
The film is directed by Rajamohan, and has music by Yuvan Shankar Raja.
For those who had yearned there aren’t any filmmakers who would make flicks based on crossroad backdrops, it was really a great disappointment. Literally, the changing phase of Kollywood had shifted the scenarios that are opened to such concepts on the screens. Followed by Bharathiraja, Bala, Ameer, Sasi Kumar, Susindhran, here comes another auteur who blissfully crafts a poignant tale based on nativity.
Director Raja Mohan has to earnestly thank SP Charan for offering a great turn to showcase his potentials with a distinct script. Kunguma Poovum Konjum Puraavum is all about a simple yet powerful tale of two souls that had a bonding relationship something more than a love affair dwelling amongst a contemporary young lad and missy.
The film is about Kuselan (Ramakrishnan), a village lad who exists from a middle class family and Tulasi (Darshana), abandoned by her parents makes her way to his hometown where she stays in her grandma’s house.  Both the youngsters are elated to have a good friendship that later turns into an enchanting love. Once, Kuselan is on his school tour his mother gets to witness the wedding invitation designed by her son.  Although, it was just done out of his imagination, his mother takes things seriously and harasses Tulasi in front of villagers. Unable to bear the humiliation, she moves away to another home town where she is urged to marry a gambler (Dharma). From now on, things take a ride of twists and turn with bizarre of events that lead to unexpected culmination.
A spellbinding directorial by Raja Mohan who doesn’t compromise with his would’ve appeared thought of adding unwanted commercial factors. Certainly, the film doesn’t carry unnecessary comedy acts on parallel tracks. Getting on with performance, Ramakrishnan and Darshana have exhibited a very powerful and stunning act. On the dots, it doesn’t look like their debut piece of work. Characterization of Dharma top-notches on his part while the old grandma’s acting is commendable. However, Raj Mohan could’ve made Ramakrishnan emoting still more effectively in certain serious situations.
As the first half moves with fun, frolic and entertainment, the audiences are sure to enjoy the pleasant experience. On the contrary, the latter part wouldn’t yield the same results as it would be appreciated by miniscule audiences. Also, there are few particular situations that take us back to the nostalgic experience we had with Subramaniapuram and Vennila Kabadi Kulu. The best exemplification is few encounters between the young couple.
Musical score by Yuvan Shankar Raja is mind-boggling on both arenas of background score and songs. Remix of ‘Mukkathu’ by Venkat Prabhu and mesmerizing ‘Chinna Chinna’ are awesome. Cinematography by Siddarth embellishes the screens with enchanting visuals as he has captured naturalistic view on the village. A small diminishing factor is that the style of rural intonation of dialogues isn’t something easy to perceive by city audiences.
On the whole, Kunguma Poovum Konjum Puraavum is a sure-footed winner amongst mini-groups who wanted to catch a glimpse on something different.

ANANDA THANDAVAM….A SKETCHY TRANSLATION….

Posted by admin On April - 20 - 2009

anandha-thandavamtA LOVE THAT GOES AWAY….A SHORT REVIEW:

  CAST AND CREW:

      Genre: Romance

Produced By: V. Ravichandran (Aascar Films)

      Director: A.R. Gandhi Krishna

Cast: Siddarth as Raghu, Tammannah as Madumitha, Rukmini, Rishi, Charlie and others…

      Music: G.V. Prakash.

Filming a Novel is a tedious task and its even tough if it is novel by a great writer like SUJATHA.

Director A.R Gandhi Krishna has taken up the challenge of transferring SUJATHA’s PIRIVOM SANTHIPOM novel on to celluloid ANANTHA THANDAVAM with Tamannah, Rukhmani and newcomer siddharth in the lead. And if the film doesn’t appeal as much as it ought to then it is mainly because the characters are not clearly defined and pave way for several ambiguities.

Raghu (Siddharth) is an engineer on the lookout for a job. Madhumitha (Tamannah) comes across his path but despite the pranks she plays for him he falls for her. He is all more thrilled when he comes to know that her parents are eager to give their daughter in marriage to him. However Raghu’s father Kitty find her parent’s haste fishy. The young man is too much in love with Madhu to heed to his father’s words. But soon things go horribly wrong.

To the viewer, Madhumitha comes as childish and mentally unbalanced. She feels nothing for anyone, falls in love with Raghu because her parents ask to, drop him like a hot brick when they instruct her to get closer to a better groom who comes their way. Thus she loses sympathy straightaway…Madhu’s parents are scheming and manipulative Raghu pleads her despite her disinterest towards him. Till the end his behavior is also vague and his spineless nature puts you off. Amidst all the supine charecters, comes the effervescent Rathna (Rukmini). Her screen presence, dance movements add a grace to the movie. Siddharth makes a bow as her with the film and frankly he could have experienced more in performance. Tamannah does a neat job and has acted well. After a debut role in Bommalattam, Rukmini has played a meaty role again. Rishi plays the role of Radhakrishnan, the guy from US who joins hands with Madhumitha.Thotta tharani’s imaginative art is good and captures the attention of the audience. Anandha thandavam is one simple movie with nothing special in it..Music scored by G.V. Prakash is good to some extent.anandhathandavam
